RME Introduces Enhanced Driver Options and Firmware Updates for USB 3 Interfaces on macOS
RME is pleased to announce significant updates to its lineup of macOS USB 3 interfaces, ensuring optimal performance and seamless compatibility with Apple Silicon devices. These updates include advanced driver support, improved firmware, and a more streamlined user experience.
• DriverKit architecture: Apple’s modern, recommended approach • Kernel Extension driver: a legacy option that is still functional. • Class Compliant (CC) mode: Apple's built-in audio driver that is now controlled by RME's settings dialog and TotalMix FX.
These latest developments make CC mode a practical backup option for systems with audio issues while maintaining the familiar RME interface functionality. TotalMix FX is now fully operational in CC mode, giving users the flexibility and control they expect from RME interfaces. However, CC mode has limited features. For example, there are fixed safety offsets, no playback data visualization in DigiCheck NG, and higher latency than RME’s own drivers.
Additionally, the Digiface Dante and Digiface AVB models now use Apple’s native network driver for their internal network port. This eliminates the need for third-party software and streamlines installation.
It is quick and easy to switch to CC mode for Digiface Dante and Digiface Ravenna. This is done through the Mac Firmware Update Tool by selecting or deselecting the newly added CC mode option.
The latest firmware updates address key USB 3.0 issues and improve stability during intensive audio, MIDI, and network usage. Improved driver uninstallation ensures a clean system environment and prevents conflicts between legacy and modern drivers.
