HEDD Audio is expanding its portfolio by introducing a groundbreaking monitoring platform: the TYPE 40 Main and the modular TYPE 40 System. This system bridges the gap between compact near-field monitors and traditional main monitors, which are often bulky. Designed for control rooms, mastering suites, post-production studios, and other demanding environments, it delivers high headroom, deep bass response, and clear sound at longer listening distances without sacrificing a compact footprint.
At the heart of the system is the TYPE 40 Main, a sealed, three-way, active monitor that delivers true, full-range reproduction down to 20 Hz as a single enclosure, eliminating the need for a separate subwoofer. The midrange-treble section features HEDD’s handcrafted Air Motion Transformer flanked by two 4-inch midrange drivers in a symmetrical D’Appolito MTM configuration. This architecture ensures a focused acoustic center, homogeneous horizontal dispersion, and precisely controlled vertical dispersion. Powered by high-performance Class-D amplifiers, the monitor achieves peak levels of up to 123 dB SPL with an exceptional transient response.
To meet growing demands, the system can be flexibly and modularly expanded without altering its fundamental sonic character. The low-bass range can be scaled using TYPE 40 XTD modules, which are equipped with 10¾-inch woofers and 700-watt Class-D amplifiers. Up to three modules can be placed vertically below each main monitor. Various operating modes are available. A vented, front-firing setup increases the maximum level at 50 Hz by up to 15 dB for maximum efficiency. The sealed mode emphasizes the highest precision and bass definition.
Special attention is paid to room interaction. Switchable cardioid configurations reduce rear sound radiation in the 20–200 Hz frequency range by up to 10 dB. This significantly minimizes disruptive reflections off rear walls, ensuring a clean, dry low end, even in acoustically challenging rooms.
The platform is controlled and time-aligned perfectly using the proven HEDD Lineariser® technology and network-based HEDD CTRL software via Ethernet. Various phase modes offer either maximum phase accuracy or minimal latency for tracking tasks. The control software enables manual room corrections via a 12-band parametric equalizer (EQ) and flexible management of stereo setups through immersive installations with up to 250 speakers.
The HEDD TYPE 40 Main and TYPE 40 XTD modules will officially be available starting October 29, 2026.
