Sibelius 2024.10 is now available – with loads of new features and compatibility with macOS Sequoia.
The October 2024 version of Sibelius has been released, bringing with it a host of new features. In addition to improved compatibility with MusicXML imports and MacOS Sequoia, the update includes a new Notate Glissando feature that makes it easier to compose glissandos. Licensing has also been stabilised, bugs have been fixed and minor user interface improvements have been made.
MusicXML Import Improvements:
The latest version of Sibelius (2024.10) includes many improvements to the MusicXML import. This makes it much easier to import scores from other notation programs such as Finale, Dorico or Musescore. The imported score is now displayed more accurately. Sibelius now recognises multi-rest, instrument and part names more reliably (including the ambiguous instrument "bass"). Page and staff outlines are more accurate, as are rehearsal mark styles. The ability to import .mxl files has been added to the advanced File > Import workflows.
New "Note Glissando" feature:
Sibelius 2024.10 includes a new feature for quickly notating glissandos. These are entered using two new commands in the Note Input tab: Note Glissando: Diatonic and Note Glissando: Chromatic. After selecting two notes, either individually or using a passage selection, Sibelius replaces the first note with a series of notes up to the last note. Slurs are preserved, as are articulations on the last note. Diatonic runs take into account the current key. Chromatic runs are written with sharps upwards and flats downwards. Groupings in simple and compound time are based on beats.
Licensing robustness:
In this release, some changes have been made to Sibelius on the desktop to ensure that AVID Link runs in the background when Sibelius needs to renew the licence or retrieve an updated entitlement. An updated version of AVID Link with further improvements in this area is expected soon.
In addition to these three major enhancements, the latest version of Sibelius includes a number of other improvements, including full compatibility with macOS 15 Sequoia and various bug fixes.
The Sibelius update is available for download to all users with an active Sibelius update and support plan through their AVID account or via AVID Link.
