With the release of DADman 5.8.2 and a corresponding Dante firmware update, AVID's Pro Tools | MTRX and MTRX Studio interfaces have made significant strides in terms of audio-over-IP interoperability. They now support SMPTE ST 2110-30 for new and existing systems via integrated Dante and Dante option cards/modules (Dante Domain Manager required).
This is an important milestone for broadcasters, live production teams, and modern hybrid facilities. ST 2110 is the preferred AoIP transport in many broadcast environments. Native support within the Pro Tools MTRX platform enables seamless integration between Pro Tools–based workflows and IP–centric audio/video infrastructures.
ST 2110-compatible Pro Tools | MTRX family products:
- MTRX II Base built into Dante
- MTRX I Base built into Dante
- MTRX Studio built into Dante
- Dante option card
- MTRX I Brooklyn 2 Dante module
- MTRX I Brooklyn 3 Dante module (DDM not required)
What's new in DADman 5.8.2
DADman 5.8.2 is now available in customers' MyAVID.com accounts and the AVID Download Center. This update introduces ST 2110-30 functionality across the entire Pro Tools | MTRX product line and offers more displays on EUCON-based control surfaces.
Key highlights include:
- ST 2110-30 audio transport via existing Dante hardware
- Support via firmware and software updates – no new hardware required
- Centralized configuration with familiar DADman routing and monitoring workflows
- Adaptation to industry standard PTPv2 timing and multicast audio streams
This means that AVID customers can now connect Pro Tools|MTRX systems directly to ST-2110 broadcast networks without sacrificing the platform's expected deterministic performance and audio quality.
Why ST 2110 is important:
Unlike previous AoIP approaches, SMPTE ST 2110 separates audio, video, and ancillary data into independent IP streams. This enables each stream to be routed, processed, and scaled with far greater flexibility than SDI-based systems.
For audio teams, this means:
- Independent audio routing without video dependencies.
- Frame-accurate synchronization via shared PTP clocks
- Improved interoperability between vendors and systems
- A future-proof foundation for fully IP-based facilities
As broadcasters around the world adopt ST 2110 as the standard, support for this format has become essential, not optional.
The role of Dante in ST 2110 Workflows
Recent advances in Audinate's Dante firmware greatly increase support for ST 2110-30 and AES67. This makes Dante-based devices integral participants in broadcast IP networks.
These enhancements include:
- Direct ST 2110-30 configuration in Dante Controller
- Support for 96 kHz audio and ST 2110 AX/BX/CX profiles
- Improved PTP clock and RTP stream control
- Greater interoperability with non-Dante ST 2110 systems
For Pro Tools MTRX customers, this integration means a single network, timing architecture, and unified audio workflow from Pro Tools to music production, on-air broadcasting, and live broadcasting.
One of the most compelling aspects of this release is that ST 2110 support will be available via software and firmware updates. Existing Pro Tools | MTRX installations with Dante connectivity can be used in ST 2110 environments without redesigning the system or retraining operators.
