HEDD
TYPE 40 Main
Compact, active, three-way reference main monitor

Compact in form. Impressive in capability.
The TYPE 40 Main was developed for studios requiring greater output and low-frequency reach than near-field monitors can provide, but which are not suited to the size and complexity of a traditional large-format main system. This compact, full-range reference main monitor offers the control, resolution and headroom required for critical listening.
Its sealed three-way design brings full-range monitoring into a single cabinet. Extension down to 20 Hz enables direct low-frequency decision-making, while the D’Appolito MTM arrangement provides precise imaging and controlled dispersion across the listening area. In ZERO PHASE mode, the HEDD Lineariser® provides phase-accurate monitoring for critical work, and the HEDD CTRL brings system control and manual response tuning to the listening position.
The TYPE 40 Main is a complete system in its own right, with no separate subwoofer required. It can also form the basis of a larger TYPE 40 system as room and production requirements increase.
Full-range bass from a sealed cabinet
A 10¾-inch high-excursion woofer housed in a fully sealed enclosure extends the response down to 20 Hz. This results in controlled low-frequency behaviour and clear pitch definition, enabling kick drums, bass instruments and sub-bass content to be heard directly, without the need for a separate subwoofer.
HEDD Air Motion Transformer
The HEDD Air Motion Transformer is hand-built in Berlin and uses a thinner diaphragm and optimised fold geometry to reduce the effective moving mass. This allows it to respond quickly to changes in the signal, precisely reproducing transients, spatial cues and fine detail while extending the response to 40 kHz.
Controlled D’Appolito MTM design
Two 4-inch midrange drivers are positioned symmetrically on either side of the AMT in a D’Appolito MTM arrangement. This configuration creates a focused acoustic centre, maintains an even horizontal listening window and controls vertical dispersion, thereby reducing reflections from the floor and ceiling.
HEDD Lineariser®
In ZERO PHASE mode, the HEDD Lineariser® corrects the amplitude and phase responses, as well as time-aligning the drivers, to ensure precise reproduction of transients and stereo imaging. In FLAT mode, the frequency response is corrected without phase linearisation. In OFF mode, the lowest possible latency is provided for tracking and real-time performance.
HEDD CTRL
HEDD CTRL provides transparent control of the TYPE 40 Main from the listening position, equipping engineers with the tools to manually adjust the room acoustics. Its 12-band parametric equaliser allows precise tuning of the monitor response, and level, input, filter and lineariser modes can be adjusted without leaving the sweet spot. Presets can be saved for different workflows, formats or listening positions, and every adjustment remains visible and under the engineer’s control. This free software can manage anything from a stereo pair to an immersive system comprising up to 250 speakers.
Complete now. Expandable later.
The TYPE 40 Main is a fully functional, full-range monitor. When room size, listening distance or production demands increase, one to three TYPE 40 XTD modules can be added per channel to increase output and low-frequency headroom and improve directional control, all without replacing the main monitor.
