ADI-2 Pro EX
Ultra-fidelity PCM/DSD 768 kHz AD/DA Converter
The ADI-2 Pro EX is the latest iteration of RME’s all-in-one reference converter. Based on the successful design of the ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition, the new ADI-2 Pro EX provides professional users with the same comprehensive features as its predecessor. New features include a redesigned chassis, increased output power, and enhanced hardware protection.
Similar to the ADI-2 Pro, the ADI-2 Pro EX is a multi-functional device that combines a high-end, professional-grade, studio-quality AD/DA converter; a dual headphone amplifier; a multi-format converter (AES, S/PDIF, and ADAT) with monitoring capability; a DSD recording and playback converter; and an AD/DA front end for audio measurements with a sample rate of up to 768 kHz. These features make the ADI-2 Pro EX one of the most versatile converters on the market.
What's new in the EX version
The ADI-2 Pro EX offers significant upgrades in hardware, performance, and protection mechanisms: Larger, ventilated enclosure: The sophisticated design and improved cooling performance perfectly complement the look of the ADI-2/4 Pro.
- Larger, ventilated chassis: The sophisticated design and improved cooling performance perfectly complement the look of the ADI-2/4 Pro.
- Enhanced with chrome feet from the ADI-2 DAC FS, they add a touch of elegance to your desktop setup.
- Lockable USB-C port: modern and robust (USB 2.0, no bus power), with a 1.8 m cable included.
- The TS trigger output enables synchronized power control for external equipment or amplifiers.
- Increased output power at the headphone output in both unbalanced and balanced modes.
- Channel-independent DC protection: New hardware circuitry for maximum reliability.
- The enhanced power supply protection detects and prevents reverse polarity and overvoltage using a fuse-less, active circuit.
- Included is a lockable NT-RME-13, a lightweight, globally compatible universal power supply. The split grounding diverts leakage current and prevents ground loops.
Ultra-fidelity PCM/DSD 768 kHz AD/DA Converter
Whether analog or digital—the possibilities are endless.
The ADI-2 Pro EX features two servo-balanced analog inputs via XLR/jack combo jacks; separate balanced and unbalanced outputs via XLR and jack; and two Extreme Power stereo headphone outputs on the front panel. It also has an ADAT-compatible optical SPDIF I/O; coaxial SPDIF (RCA); and AES I/O (XLR), which are accessible via the included cable harness. These extensive connectivity options enable high-quality, flexible signal transmission without compromise.
The USB-C port is class compliant (UAC 2) and allows connection to compatible iOS devices. It is also used for firmware updates. In addition to powering the device with the included external power supply with a locking plug, it is also possible to operate the device using a battery. This enables both mobile use and galvanically isolated applications.
As a computer interface, the ADI-2 Pro EX offers stereo (2 in/2 out) and multichannel (6 in/8 out) modes. It is directly compatible with Mac OS X. Under Windows, the ADI-2 Pro EX uses RME’s MADIface series drivers for full WDM and ASIO compatibility and maximum performance.
The new Trigger Out jack delivers a 12-volt trigger signal via a 3.5-millimeter mono jack. This signal can be used to turn power amplifiers with a Trigger In input on and off in conjunction with the ADI-2/4 Pro.
High-resolution display and controls.
RME has equipped the ADI-2 Pro EX with numerous unique features. These features include five-band parametric equalizers for fully customizable sound shaping, an adjustable bass/treble control with quick access, a binaural crossfeed function, an adjustable loudness filter, selectable AD/DA filters, four discrete input/output reference levels, automatic reference level switching, and automatic balanced headphone operation. The display not only operates the device, but also shows warnings and operating instructions.
Professional features such as M/S processing, stereo width, and phase reversal are also available, along with full control over all settings, including a memory function. The popular RME Spectral Analyzer, a 30-band analysis tool with a biquad filter, offers unmatched musical visualization that is optimally displayed on the high-resolution IPS screen.
Headphone outputs with exceptional performance
To ensure the premium DAC's full performance is available at the headphone outputs, even with demanding, low-impedance headphones, RME has improved the "Extreme Power" headphone output stage. This design delivers exceptionally clean, detailed sound and features comprehensive protection and power management functions. Special low and high power modes ensure optimal performance with a wide variety of headphones.
For balanced headphone operation, RME developed its proprietary "Advanced Balanced" mode, which surpasses conventional balanced designs. This mode enables a direct balanced signal path from the DAC to the headphones, improving overall audio performance through optimized signal quality, frequency response, and consistency between components.
Precision without compromise.
With the ADI-2 Pro EX, RME continues to build on its proven converter technology, offering rock-solid signal processing, precise analog technology, and sonic transparency at the highest level. Its wide range of applications makes it an ideal choice for many users, including home users seeking innovative solutions with the highest sound quality, studio owners looking for reference-grade AD/DA conversion, hi-fi enthusiasts demanding a flexible, high-end headphone amplifier, and industry professionals using the portable device as a front end for measurement systems.
