High-performance digital audio format converter for AES3, AES3id and S/P-DIF signals

The Mutec MC-6 enables easy and trouble-free connection of digital audio devices in a wide variety of ways, without the user having to worry much about possible clock problems.

Conversions can be made, uni- or bidirectionally, between AES3, AES3id and S/PDIF signals at up to 192.0kHz clock rate. An input and output is available for each audio format including optical and coaxial interfaces for the S/PDIF format. The internal, low-jitter clock base in combination with two audiophile-optimized PLL synthesizers guarantee best sound quality in all working modes. If a non-synchronous device is to be integrated into a digital studio, the sample rate converters can be quickly switched into the signal path to provide synchronous signals at the outputs. A total of 26 conversion modes between the four interface standards as well as various synchronization options allow the MC-6 to solve any conversion problem, no matter how complicated, easily and quickly!

The unique X-SRC mode of the MC-6

One of the unique features of the MC-6 is its ability to synchronize two digital audio stereo sources with different clock rates and convert their audio formats and clock rates bidirectionally in real time using the X-SRC mode. Therefore, the device features a 4-channel SRC engine as standard, while two audiophile-optimized PLL synthesizers ensure the best sound quality in all operating modes.

The MC-6 extracts the master clocks from each of the two incoming digital audio stereo streams and uses these clock references to synchronize the SRCs before the two format-same outputs. In this way, the two digital audio sources are permanently synchronized by the MC-6 without the need to tie either of the devices involved to an external master clock reference. This is especially useful when you are connecting two non-synchronized or non synchronizable digital audio devices, each running on its own internal clock base.
