AVID Sibelius 7.0.3AVID announced a new update for registered Sibelius 7 users. The update is now available for download from the Sibelius web site, bringing the program to version 7.0.3. This update addresses a number of problems reported by users since Sibelius 7.0.2 was released towards the end of August.

Some of the specific highlights of improvements in this update include:

  • The Ideas feature is now fully operational once more.
  • Many of the sounds in the included Sibelius 7 Sounds library have been tweaked, including adjustments to balance, ranges, and so on.
  • A new Sibelius 7 Sounds (Lite) playback configuration is included, which allows you to use the Sibelius 7 Sounds library on systems with less RAM: the “lite” sounds consume less RAM and are faster to load than the full sounds (but they still sound great!).
  • When exporting audio using Sibelius 7 Sounds, notes are no longer incorrectly cut short under some circumstances.
  • Sibelius now more reliably detects when it is running out of memory while loading sounds in the Sibelius Player, and shows a dialog giving you options for how to proceed.
  • Many improvements to printing, including a fix for the problem whereby some parts would print from the system default printer instead of the printer chosen in File > Print, and more besides.
  • Fixes for a number of problems relating to the use of European keyboard layouts for keyboard shortcuts (including the , key on the numeric keypad)
  • General stability improvements, including ensuring that Sibelius is able to restart correctly if it crashes and Windows 7 tries to restart it automatically.
  • General performance improvements, including optimisation for drawing the Mixer and the playback line on Mac, which makes Sibelius more responsive during playback.

In total there are around 200 fixes and improvements included in Sibelius 7.0.3, and you can check out the complete list here. Once you’re ready to update, grab the download here.

There are some other little gems in this update, about which I’ll provide more details in the coming days.
